Study Flamenco guitar with Basilio Georges of Flamenco Latino, whether you're a beginner or an experienced player looking for a great teacher! His classes focus on strengthening your playing by achieving the correct right and left hand techniques, and increase your understanding of Flamenco within the context of dance and singing accompaniment. With over 30 years of professional experience, Basilio offers an incredible mix of traditional and modern styles and techniques, and is also able to work with written music or tablature. Fluent in Spanish, he has lived and worked in Spain and accompanied many well known artists throughout his career.


PRIVATE CLASSES
Beginner to Advanced levels offered

Guitar Private 4-Pack, $200 paid in advance (four one-hour classes, $50 each). If you elect this 4 class package, you average two classes per month (new terms effective 5/25/11). Credit for unused classes will be charged for unused classes if a 4-pack is not spent out within 8 weeks.

Or take uncommitted classes for $70 each. Prepayment required for appointment. If you take your first uncommitted class as a trial and decide within 7 days after the first class to continue with 3 more classes paid in advance, you can switch to the 4 class package, and the balance will be $130. You must pay the balance within the 7 day period after your trial class, or the upgrade will not be honored.

24 Hour Notice required for any changes in dates, time, or cancellation. With less than 24 hours notice, class will be charged. Anyone canceling or changing times after business hours on a weekday, after 5:00 pm on Saturday, or any time on a Sunday must make effort to contact Basilio by means other than the Flamenco Latino business phone or Flamenco Latino business email.

GROUP CLASSES

NEW Group Guitar Level 1 (4 student minimum required)

Tues. 7:30-8:30 pm

  • Learn right hand techniques and hand placement, how to absorb material more quickly
  • Basic chord shifts for all open position chords
  • hammers and pull-offs
  • scales, how the fretboard works
  • basic rasqueados
  • Best for players with no experience playing in compas, or trying to improve study habits
  • Full term enrollment required

Group Guitar Level 3A

Wed. 8:00-9:30 pm

  • Technique exercises
  • Basic rasqueados
  • Learn to play simple arrangements with the other students in time
  • Currently working on Fandangos de Huelva, Tanguillo de Cadiz, Solea, all with cante
  • Full term enrollment required

Group Guitar Level 3B

Fri. 12:15-1:15 pm

  • Technique, technique, technique
  • Basic compas patterns in various toques
  • Falsetas, solo routines
  • Learn to use falsetas you already have, and play them in rhythm
  • Currently working on Tarantos

Group Guitar Level 2

Sat. 4:00-5:00 pm

  • Learn right hand techniques and hand placement
  • Basic chord shifts for all open position chords
  • hammers and pull-offs
  • scales
  • rasqueados
  • Accompaniment of simple cante arrangements
  • Currently working on Tangos de Triana, Tanguillo, Rumba, Sevillanas
  • Full term enrollment required

Flamenco Music Ensemble

Thurs. 7:30-9:30 pm

  • Work on solo cantes and dance arrangements in all palos. Prepare for performances in our Studio/Theater two-four times per year.
  • Two upcoming concerts are scheduled for March 24 or 25 and May 5 or 6, guest artists to be determined by late Jan. 2012.
  • For flamenco guitarists who can play in compas without starting and stopping.
  • For singers from Mon. Cante class with Alfonso Cid, or who have studied with other professional cantaores who have passed through New York City.
  • Latin arrangements will utilize singers interpretting lyrics AND lines for wind instruments using Latin scat syllables.
  • Memorization and command of your own material is essential. The class does not spend a lot of time breaking down individual phrases of cante, portions of falsetas or how to fit your material into compás.
  • The participants must have the ability to quickly digest material and concepts. The pace is much quicker than the other group classes or any private class.
  • Looking for at least one solo instrument player for Nov. concert: trumpet, flute, sax, clarinet, violin, etc.
  • Full term enrollment required.

All students get access to library of mp3s recorded in class (not available to public).
